by Jack Canfield

By keeping a personal journal, you enter a sacred space. Here, you are safe from judgment and free from daily duties and cares. Here you can dream, discover, and dare to create new ways of being in the world.

Use a journal to directly reinforce the teachings of The Success Principles, and other personal learning courses. Create a laboratory for personal transformation as you put the principles of your course into action each day. Do this by including sections in your journal for inspiration, intention, action, and growth.

Receive Inspiration

Writing captures guidance from your deepest self before it disappears. Inspired ideas can rise to the surface of your mind in a classic “aha!” moment. This might be a solution to a persistent problem, an idea for a breakthrough goal, a powerful image, an energizing affirmation, or another sudden spark of insight. No matter what form the inspiration takes, record it in your journal.

Write about your challenges as well. Note the moments when you are not functioning at your peak—times when you feel bored, tense, angry, afraid, or sad. These feelings are clues to areas of your life ripe for transformation. In your journal, describe the discomfort in detail and how you reacted. Look for patterns. Also brainstorm new options for responding. Sometimes a moment of inspiration lies just on the other side of a tough emotion.

Form Intention

Statements of intention contain blueprints for action. This kind of journal entry offers a way to stay positive and on course, directed toward the new results you want to attract into your life.

As with writing affirmations, keep intention statements focused on what you want. “I intend to effortlessly double my income” is more effective than “I intend to stop worrying about paying my bills each month.”

Also release the word try. A statement such as “I will try to save at least 10 percent of my income each month” conveys something less than wholehearted commitment. People who continue to overspend can rationalize the result by saying, “Well, I am trying.”

A more effective option comes from Yoda, the gnomish guru in the Star Wars film trilogy: “Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”

While you can fill up a journal with statements of inspiration and intention, consider adding inducements to action as well. Even the most jaw-dropping insight or motivating statement of intention can fall flat when this element is missing.

Take the intention statement mentioned above: “I intend to double my income while working with joy and ease.” That’s a solid place to start. Now, pave the way for action by packing your intention full of details. Include specific goals such as “I will call fifty new customers this week” and “I will include ten new products in my next catalog.”

Celebrate Growth

Use a journal to make your own growth visible to yourself. Record the results that you experience by using The Success Principles and the Law of Attraction. Whenever a new outcome shows up in your life—whether subtle or significant—capture it in your journal.

Be specific. As your income increases, note dollar amounts. As your network of clients and job contacts grows, include names. As you resolve conflict with key people in your life, describe the words and actions that produced these breakthroughs.

Writing offers a way to lift your eyes above the steady march of daily events. When immersed in the details of work and family responsibilities, you can easily overlook change that is already manifesting in your life. Use a journal to regain perspective and literally rewrite your life.

Seeing the evidence of your personal growth recorded on the page, before your own eyes, can instantly raise your emotional vibration. And that opens a path for the cycle of inspiration, intention, action, and growth to begin all over again.

I am excited to share with you this post by Devlyn Steele from Tools To Life. This answers one of the most common questions I hear from people here on the Internet. Many times I hear people say “I have READ everything in the system/training but it’s not working…”, but then when I ask what ACTIONS they are taking to use the knowledge they’ve learned in their favor, they simply say “nothing” or don’t reply at all. How can someone expect to make something work if THEY don’t work toward what they say they want. Just keep reading the post below…

==========================================================

Peter was particularly a bit sad and thoughtful this morning. He was slumped on the couch hurt sad and lonely. The woman he was currently dating told him that she was done. I asked him, “Peter, what is it that you want now?” He said, “I want to be in committed relationship. I want to have kids and get married.”

I said, “No you don’t.” The words came as a surprise to Peter who objected, “How can you say that, that is what I really want and I know I am ready.”

I said, “Peter, that might be what you feel you should be doing, or maybe it is on some level what you have always imagined for yourself, but your behavior does not equal up to that outcome.” He anxiously replied, “How so?”

“Peter” I said, “Imagine you are a trainer and a client begins with you by saying that they want to get in great shape, but the client didn’t want to change his or her diet or work out regularly. What would you think?” Peter replied, “I would think the client was being unrealistic and that they could never get in shape that way.”

“Peter” I said, “Do you think that your behavior is matching the results you say you want?

That is the question I have for everyone, do your actions match the results you say you want? I have clients each and every day tell me what they want. Regardless of what people say they want, if behavior does not equal getting those results then the change will not materialize. I often find that people know what they should do to create changes that they want, but do not apply the action.

If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.
-Gail Sheehy

We study about how to create success in order to change circumstance in our lives. In order to do that the real goal is to change what you are currently doing. After all if you continue to do what you have been doing, then how can anything ever change?

If you want to lose weight, but continue to eat and exercise like you always have, you are not going to lose weight. If you want to have more money, but continue to earn and spend the same, once again your circumstances will not change. The same holds true with your relationship life, if you approach it the same way nothing will change.

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.”
-Johan Von Goethe

There are many books and people that will give you good advice. The question is how do you actually apply it. Advice only can help you if you apply it! You do not change your circumstances by getting great advice or even knowing what to do. There is only one way to create change, and that is to apply action.

I always tell my clients that the old saying, “knowledge is power” is wrong. Knowledge is not power, it is potential power. Use of knowledge is power. It is like a parked car with a full tank of gas. The gas is idle without power until the ignition is turned on. Learn what you need to do to create change and fill your car up with the gas of knowledge. Then turn on your ignition so you can literally drive to the destination of your choice. Then your knowledge will have power.

It’s stunning to me how often I hear these words “I can’t go any further” especially here on the Internet. But what really catches my attention are the situations when people use those words. I mean, sometimes I read some e-mails or something online where someone writes “… I don’t know how to do this and I can’t go any further…”, do you know what that really means? Is it something usually too simple too BIG that is holding you back?

Nothing is a problem as long as there’s a way through the other side.

When it comes to the Internet I see that many times there’s only one answer to most of those things people call a problem and that do not allow them to go further. Do you know what the answer is? ……… It’s Google! Yes, the answer to many of your questions and things holding you back here are just in front of you. Before you say “I don’t know how to do something” or “I can’t do something and can’t any further” go to Google and type in “How to do …”, whatever you do a research about you will usually find relevant answers to your questions.

It all comes down to “your” point of view, if you affirm to yourself that something is too big and too difficult to the point of stopping you, you’re right. So when you have a situation where something difficult comes your way, stop for a moment and ask yourself “Is there a way to through this and get to the other side?” if yes, that’s not a problem but an opportunity for you to grow your personal self.

I’ve been here online for a short period of time and I had to learn several different things that I didn’t have any knowledge about and one of my good friends here was Google. For instance, a few months ago I didn’t even know what WordPress was and let alone how to install it, so what I did, instead of saying “I don’t know how to work with that and I can’t go any further” I went to Google and did a little research and in just a few minutes I found out how I could do it. And soon it was me who recorded my own video showing how to do it, as you can see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0tg-kS8MwQ .

But, there will be real situations that you may call a “problem” when you will really need help from someone you trust. I can say, that since I’ve been here online that situation occurred to me when I had my identity stolen by someone with evil in their intentions and I had to call my mentor and get all the help I could from the people around me. It was tough, you can’t image waking up one day and find out that all your passwords with services you use were changed, your website is down and now you need to run to prove that you’re yourself and get hold of your identity again. I can admit that stopped some of my activities for a while until I could put things back in order again, but that didn’t stop me from pressing forward.

I’m just 23 years old but I’ve been through many difficult situations in my life, including the loss of loved ones, financial difficulties, family and so on, that today I think twice before saying that I have a problem or that something is preventing me from going further.

To help you change your vision on things that life throws your way and see them as an opportunity instead of a problem I recommend that you visit “Tools to Life” at http://www.toolstolife.com, it’s a self-help and self-development program that can help you make big improvements in your life and show that you have NO limits, make your life what you want it to be and see difficult situations as an opportunity to grow. I forgot to mention, it’s Free!

So I hope this article gives you some insight on how to solve these little issues that you’ll find here online, that you have Google to help you deal with all those little technical stuff and that you also have your friends here to help you go through the “real” difficult situations.

I wish you success in all you do and also want to say that I am here to help go through any adversities you may find as I can.

God Bless,

Anderson Goncalves

P.S.: A warm “Thank You” to my friends and mentors Janet Legere and Don Legere, the folks at GVO (Global Virtual Opportunities) and all the friends who helped me go through this ordeal I faced here when I had my identity stolen two weeks ago.

Every adversity bares the seed of equal or greater opportunity. – Napoleon Hill

This morning while I was sorting through my e-mails I found this one that caught my interest. Since the author Robin Sharma authorized it to be passed on those I like and want to help, I just thought of no better place than posting it here for all of you to enjoy. It’s never too late to start making the changes we want in our lives.

Make it a great day!

Anderson Goncalves

———————————————

1. Remember that leadership isn’t about your position. It’s about your influence.

2. Get fit like a pro athlete.

3. Lift people up versus tearing people down.

4. Protect your good name. An impeccable reputation takes a lifetime to build. And 60 seconds to lose.

5. Surround yourself with positive, ethical people who are committed to excellence.

6. Remember that even a 1% daily innovation rate amounts to at least a 100% rate of innovation in 100 days.

7. Believe in your dreams (even when others laugh at them).

8. Measure your success, not by your net worth but by your self worth (and how happy you feel).

9. Take an intelligent risk every 24 hours. No try-No Win.

10. Read “Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist”.

12. Regardless of your title at work, be a team builder.

13. Remember that business is all about relationships and human connections.

14. Say “please” more.

15. Say “thank you” more.

16. Know your Big 5: the five things that need to happen by the end of this year for you to feel its been your best year yet.

17. Read your Big 5 every morning while the rest of the world is asleep.

18. Read “As You Think”. At least twice this year.

19. Be willing to fail. It’s the price of greatness.

20. Focus less on making money and more on creating value.

21. Spend less, save more.

22. Leave everything you touch better than you found it.

23. Be the most positive person in every room you’re in.

24. Run your own race.

24. Stay true to your deepest values and best ideals.

25. Write a handwritten thank you note to a customer/friend/loved one every day.

26. When you travel, send love letters to your kids on hotel stationary. In time, they’ll have a rich collection to remember your travels by.

27. Read “Atlas Shrugged”.

28. Be a problem solver versus a trouble maker.

29. Rather than doing many things at mediocrity do just a few things-but at mastery.

30. Honor your parents.

31. Commit to doing great work-whether anyone notices it or not. It’s one of life’s best sources of happiness.

32. Give more than you receive (another of the truths of happiness).

33. Have your 1/3/5/10/25 years goals recorded on paper and review them weekly.

34. Be patient. Slow and steady wins the race. The only reason businesses that went from zero to a billion in a year or two get featured in magazines is because 99% of businesses require a lot more time to win.

34. Underpromise and then overdeliver.

35. See part of your job as “a developer of people” (whether you work in the boardroom or the mailroom).

36. Wear your heart on your sleeve. When people see you’re real, they’ll fall in love with you.

37. Be authentic versus plastic.

38. Read “The Alchemist”.

39. Remember that life wants you to win. So get out of your own way.

40. Consider that behind every fear lives your next level of growth (and power).

41. Eat less food.

42. Drink more water.

43. Rest when you need to.

44. Read “SUCCESS” magazine.

45. Write your eulogy and then live your life backwards.

46. Demand the best from yourself.

47. Remember that the more you go to your limits, the more your limits will expand.

48. See everything that happens to you as an opportunity to grow (and therefore, as a precious gift).

49. Be obsessed with learning and self-development.

50. Become comfortable alone (you are the only person you get to be with your whole life).

51. Smile. It’s a stunningly effective way to win in business and life.

52. Reflect on the shortness of life.

53. Be bold when it comes to your dreams but gentle with those you love.

54. Remember that success is dangerous because it can kill drive/innovation/passion and going the extra mile. Be successful yet stay hungry.

55. Read “The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin”.

56. Be of deep value to this world.

57. Own beautiful things but don’t let them own you.

58. Use excellent words.

59. Laugh more.

60. Don’t complain, gossip or be negative.

61. Plan as if you’ll live forever but live as if you’ll die tomorrow.

62. Feel free to pass these lessons on to those you want to help.

Just a ton of lessons I want to share with you from this morning’s experience. Here are my best 4:

1. Staying within your comfort zone-whether on a mountain or within a life-is sort of a waste of time. Why? Because though you’re not frightened, you’re also not growing and improving.

2. Don’t let your mind keep you small. As I climbed closer to the peak and the air got thinner, my mental chatter grew louder. “What if you fall off this mountain?” “Maybe you’re not good enough to ski this.” “You could be in trouble up here.” I just switched it off and got down to business. Just focused on getting to where I needed to go. Most fears are just a bunch of lies you’ve sold yourself anyway. So I refused to buy them.

3. We each have our own Everests. Maybe you’re facing a business challenge. Maybe you’re going through some really hard personal time. Maybe you’re just in a place where nothing seems to work. Don’t back down from your Everests because climbing them will take you to your next level of leadership and humanity. They are such precious gifts. Embrace them.

4. Reward the Win. I’m trying to eat at peak. But when I got down, I scored myself a “Mountain Chocolate Muffin”. Sure, it may not have been the best thing for my body. But it definitely was the best thing for my soul. As I ate it, while sitting out on the deck overlooking more peaks, I celebrated my win. That reward anchored me to the positivity of tackling hard things. So now I’m ready for the next one.

Few things feel as good as doing something that challenged you deeply versus running back to comfort. I beat some fear this morning, bumped up my ski game and can’t wait for the next opportunity. To stretch, reach and grow.
